The loan portfolio of Ukrainian banks in January-March 2021 increased by 0.8%, to 1.06 trillion UAH, while the volume of non-performing loans (NPL) fell by 1.8%, to 422, 6 billion UAH, according to a report posted on the site. of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
According to him, the share of NPLs in the banking system in the first quarter of 2021 increased from 41% to 39.9%.
The National Bank said that in the first three months of 2021, the portfolio of loans to the business sector decreased by 0.4%, to 792.540 billion UAH (including the share of NPL – from 1.2 %, to 366.7 billion UAH), in turn, portfolio loans to individuals increased by 3.3%, to 215.29 billion UAH (the NPL decreased by 5.6%, to 54.92 billion UAH).
At the same time, the volume of interbank loans increased by 15%, to 39.15 billion UAH (of which the NPL decreased by 0.3%, to 981 million UAH), while the volume of loans granted to public and local authorities decreased by 4.2%, to 11.24 UAH. billion (NPL remained at zero).
According to the National Bank, at the end of the quarter, the share of NPLs in the portfolio of loans to the business sector fell by 0.4 percentage point (to 46.3%), loans to the population – by 2 , 4 percentage points (at 25.5%). %), interbank loans – by 0.4 percentage point (to 2.5%) and loans to public authorities remained at the level of 0%.
According to the central bank report, the loan portfolio of public banks without PrivatBank in January-March 2021 increased by 1.3%, to 299.07 billion UAH (the volume of NPL decreased by 0.1% , to 128.9 billion UAH), while the loan portfolio of PrivatBank increased by 0.2%, to 245.376 million UAH (the NPL decreased by 1.8%, to 177.99 billion d ‘UAH).
In addition, in January-March 2021, the loan portfolio of foreign-invested banks decreased by 1% (to 340.7 billion UAH), and that of private banks increased by 5% (to 173.1 billion UAH), while the volume of defaulted loans in these banks decreased as a result. 3.1% (at 92.9 billion UAH) and 4.9% (at 22.8 billion UAH).
Thus, at the end of the first quarter of 2021, the share of NPLs in the loan portfolios of public banks (excluding PrivatBank) decreased by 0.6 percentage point (to 43.1%), in PrivatBank – from 1.4 pp (to 72.54%), in banks with foreign capital – by 0.6 percentage point (to 27.28%) and in banks with private capital – by 1.4 percentage points (to 13.2 %).
As reported, at the end of 2020, the loan portfolio of Ukrainian banks narrowed by 4.4%, to 1.05 trillion UAH, including the volume of NPL down 18.9%, to 430.371 billion UAH.
