Hungary convenes Ukrainian envoy on Kiev position on Budapest agreement with Gazprom – business & economy

MOSCOW, September 28. / TASS /. The Hungarian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over Kiev’s actions regarding the Budapest deal with Russian gas company Gazprom, Hungarian top diplomat Peter Szijjarto said in a statement on Facebook on Tuesday.

“The actions of the Ukrainian government against the agreement, through the European Commission, are extremely scandalous,” the statement read. “Ukraine has nothing to do with those with whom we conclude agreements,” Szijjarto said. He stressed that Budapest considered these Kiev measures “a violation of [Hungary’s] “Our foreign ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador,” added the senior Hungarian diplomat. and medical equipment, as well as investment.

On Monday, Hungary and Gazprom signed a new long-term gas supply agreement bypassing Ukraine. The document was inked by senior officials from Gazprom and Hungarian energy company MVM at the Foreign Ministry in Budapest. Ukraine, in turn, has pledged to ask the European Commission to assess the agreement’s compliance with EU energy laws. In response, Budapest accused Kiev of interfering in its internal affairs. On October 1, Hungary will start receiving Russian gas via the Balkan Stream gas pipeline (a continuation of TurkStream) and gas pipelines crossing South Eastern Europe.
