KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – October 06, 2021) Kiev is ready to engage with Budapest on gas supply issues, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Wednesday.

“I know that (Hungarian Foreign Minister) Peter (Szijjarto) is also participating in the forum, but we haven’t met yet. But I’m open to this conversation. We haven’t closed the door. Situation and take a decision that will suit all parties, ”Kuleba said in an interview with Ukrinform news agency on the sidelines of the Warsaw Security Forum.

Last week, the Hungarian government and Russian energy giant Gazprom signed a contract for the supply of 4.

5 billion cubic meters of gas per year until the end of 2036. The deal has drawn strong criticism from the West, with Kiev expressing disappointment that Hungary is getting gas by bypassing Ukraine. In response, Budapest said Hungary is a sovereign country and makes its own decisions about where to buy gas and how to get it.

On October 1, Ukrainian operator GTS said Gazprom had suspended the transit of gas to Hungary via Ukraine, as new contracts between Budapest and Gazprom entered into force. On October 3, the Hungarian operator of the FGSZ pipeline network announced the resumption of transit.
