In a statement, Roskomnadzor said that Wikipedia still hosts “prohibited material, including fakes about the conduct of the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine”, and that search engines will be used to inform users. that Wikimedia violated Russian law.
Writing on Telegram, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Parliamentary Information Policy Committee Anton Gorelkin said links to Wikipedia would come with a disclaimer warning users of violations of law by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Roskomnadzor said the measures would remain in place until the Wikimedia Foundation becomes fully compliant with Russian law.
On June 13, the Wikimedia Foundation appealed a Moscow court ruling, fining it 5 million rubles (£76,000) for refusing to remove what it said was misinformation from Wikipedia articles. in Russian on the conflict in Ukraine, including “The Russian invasion of Ukraine”, “War crimes during the Russian invasion of Ukraine”, and “Massacre in Bucha”.
