Japan, Philippines agree to strengthen regional security coordination
The Japanese and Philippine foreign ministers on Tuesday reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to enhancing cooperation in the fields of security and coast guard activities, amid China’s growing maritime assertiveness in Indo -Pacific, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and his Philippine counterpart Enrique Manalo agreed in phone talks to pursue closer collaboration between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Philippine military, such as joint exercises, the ministry said.
